Christopher Gray

New fantasy novelist Christopher Gray lives in Melbourne.

I was born in Melbourne, Australia, and have lived here all my life.
My first interest in literature, which has continued unabated, was sparked by Enid Blyton during my second attempt at Grade 3. As a child I combined with writing an interest (and passable talent) in art to produce my own comic books on a regular basis; as I grew older these gave way to concentration more on the written language, until at length I decided to embark upon a book: the end result is what you see before you.
Besides this, my “professional” life has enjoyed some variety. For about ten years I was a professional actor, working my way up from extra to a state of extreme mediocrity as a bit player in films and TV; although I did, to some approbation, play the lead in “Cat On a Hot Tin Roof” with Melbourne Theatre Company.
In the 80’s I was lead singer in a rock band, and was able to extend my writing into the area of many of the songs we performed.
It was as a mature age student that I eventually undertook tertiary education, first completing a BA in Media Studies, then following it up two years later with a Dip Ed in Primary teaching — a course I decided upon as while all else was happening a constant in my life had been an active involvement with children through Cub and Scout leading. My start in teaching was slow as with brilliant timing I came onto the market just as the number of schools was being mercilessly rationalised. However, I got there eventually; but never quite lost the urge to write . . .
