Frances Hackney

Doctor of Sciences, artist, writer and musician. Her poems have been translated and published in English, Spanish, Bengali and Chinese. Frances is also a mother of six and calls Longueville, NSW home.

Frances Hackney passed away on Saturday, 21 May 06.

One of Australia's most distinguished writers. Her tally of awards includes Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (London); Writing Fellow of the Fellowship of Australian Writers; listed on "International Who's Who of Poetry"; author of seven books; winner of many prizes and awards for art and poetry since childhood, including the Australia Day Council's "Medal for Achievement" (four times); the Australian Bicentennial Gold Medal; the NSW Senior Citizens Gold Medal 1988; nominated for the 200 Living Greats of the Bi-centenary year; Citizenship Award 1996 for services in the field of Music and Arts.
