Gloria Chalmers

Gloria was born in Murrumburrah NSW. At the age of 18, she sailed to PNG on the first leg of an around-the-world trip. Then she met a tall and handsome medical officer, and stayed in PNG for many years.

At the age of 56 she began and completed a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) degree at Deakin (Geelong) University. She has also exhibited paintings at the Geelong Art Gallery with a group of artists known as the Corsair Artists.
She has just been invited to attend a conference at the Royal Society in London in Oct. 2007 to celebrate 50 years of research into kuru (laughing death), which is described in the book. Also, TAKA who is mentioned twice, is one of a contingent of Papua New Guineans to be flown to London to take part. These people either assisted in the research or had relatives die of the disease.
