Mike Clancy
As a businessman, Mike Clancy likes practical politicians. He is attracted to a leader who has the common touch, who is small-business-friendly and who rules for all Australians. At the same time, Clancy is not one to be taken in by a lot of hot air. He is interested in evidence.
Michael Clancy's early studies were in Theology and Social Sciences and then later in business and marketing. He spent his early life working in the health sector before moving to community education. As a social entrepreneur he designed and managed projects that linked community needs to government funding opportunities. He was employed as a project manager, video producer and adult education manager with the Deaf community and then in the broader Adult and Community Education sector.
In 1995, he founded OnLine English Pty Ltd. (http://www.oleng.com.au). OnLine English provides editing services for academics and researchers from non-English speaking countries. It is run entirely over the Internet and was one of Australia's first successful companies selling services over the Internet. Michael ran the company for eleven years before its sale in 2006. The company continues to prosper.
Michael sold the company in 2006 for two reasons; his health, and in order to focus on researching and writing Howard's seduction of Australia: Where to now?
His publication record comprises three video productions:
Talking Hands 1: 1985. Talking Hands 2: 1986.
Heritage in our Hands, an 'oral' History of the Deaf community: 1989.
He brings to this project a proven capacity to develop and manage innovative projects to address real needs. Howard's Seduction was conceived as a project to write a popular book that would look at the evidence behind the public perceptions of Howard.
This book expresses his belief that we need to return to a more inclusive and democratic Australia, and with the purpose of engaging more Australians in this project.
