Stephen Richard

Stephen Richard was born in Sydney, Australia to a Catholic family and also raised his children as Catholics. Because their upbringing included Mass every Sunday and education at Catholic schools he felt he now owed them clarification on how his thinking had changed. In his first book, "Don't Tell The Pope!" he shows how dramatic that change has been. When he wrote his "Thoughts" for his children the intention was that they would be the only ones to read them. There is a saying "Sing like no one is listening, dance like no one is watching." Stephen wrote like no one would be reading. He wrote with candour and honesty. His wife said "You should do something with this". "Don't Tell The Pope!" is the result.

“In the great tradition of Blaise Pascal, Stephen Richard here offers us his "Thoughts" on the meaning of life. He is a philosopher who wrestles, not with Aristotle or Aquinas, but with the raw material of life as seen on TV or in the front bar at the local pub. He engages with those who find human existence something of a mystery and who are dissatisfied with traditional solutions to its puzzles.”
Emeritus Professor Father Edmund Campion

"Because of this outrageous book I've decided not to convert to Catholicism. Witty, wise and warm hearted. Well done."
Phillip Adams, Late Night Live, ABC Radio National

"Against the complexities of our beliefs, Stephen succeeds in presenting a succinct analysis of the human plight. With courageous and sensitive thoughts, free of all presumptuousness, he not only confronts us with the naked truth but encourages our survival. Having studied philosophy, religions and the Bible, I was overwhelmed by its logic. This was a refreshing inward look at our lives. I have never read such a good book! " Dr. Nadia Castronuovo Ph.D
